JXL to JPG Converter

Open JPEG XL files and create compatible JPG downloads. Choose a background, resize to a maximum KB target, or convert a batch privately on your device.

Measured Browser Test Outputs

Generated test images checked on October 14, 2026 in desktop Chrome using the fallback decoder. These are QA examples, not expected savings for your files.

  • 320 × 480 solid-color JXL: 313 input bytes → 1,660 JPG bytes; dimensions preserved.
  • 160 × 120 transparent JXL: 170 input bytes → 1,094 JPG bytes with white background.
  • 960 × 720 noisy JXL, 1KB target: 119,001 JPG bytes at 720 × 540; target not reached, warning shown.

Convert JPEG XL for Forms and Older Apps

A .jxl file may display in a modern browser while your upload form still requires JPG. This tool decodes JPEG XL locally, flattens transparency onto your selected background, and creates a JPG. Check the downloaded file’s dimensions, size and readability before submitting it.

Batch Conversion with Size and Background Controls

Upload up to 20 files, choose white, black or a custom background, and optionally limit width/height. Converted results show a preview and measured file size. Download files individually or package successful results in a ZIP; failed files are reported separately.

What the Output Preserves

This converter produces an 8-bit still image from the decoder’s still/first-frame output. JPG loses transparency and adds compression. Animation, HDR, original color profiles and metadata are not preserved. For archival originals, keep your JXL file. Output size can be larger than the source.

Choose a Maximum KB Target

For limits such as 100KB or 200KB, enable target-KB mode. A result may be over the limit; the status shows this explicitly. Compare exact output bytes with the destination’s maximum, minimum and dimension rules.

Browser and Format Support

The tool uses a downloadable JPEG XL WebAssembly decoder in a worker. Files are processed locally. Native browser previews of selected JXL files may be unavailable; the converted comparison preview appears after decoding. See Chrome’s JPEG XL announcement for native display support, or choose another workflow in the converter hub.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I convert a JXL file to JPG?

Upload .jxl files, choose the background and optional dimensions or KB target, then convert and download. Up to 20 files are processed one at a time; successful outputs can be downloaded together as a ZIP.

Does my browser need native JPEG XL support?

No. This tool loads its JPEG XL decoder when you convert, so it can process files in browsers with WebAssembly and web workers even without native JXL display. The first conversion needs an internet connection to load the decoder.

Is JXL to JPG lossless?

No. JPG is re-encoded and transparent areas are filled with your chosen background. This tool creates an 8-bit image preview/output; it does not preserve animation, HDR, high bit depth, original profiles or metadata. It is not a reversible JPEG reconstruction tool.

Can I make a JPG under 100KB?

Enable target-KB resizing and enter 100. The result shows actual bytes and whether the target was reached. A small limit is not always achievable. This tool uses 1 KB = 1024 bytes; compare actual bytes with your form’s instructions.

What are the limits?

Up to 20 files, 10 MB per source, and 16 megapixels per decoded image. Large compressed images can still use substantial memory; use smaller batches on phones. Only the decoder’s still/first-frame output is converted.
