Set Image DPI
Updates JPG or PNG print-resolution metadata. Pixel width, height, and visible quality stay unchanged.
Image DPI Converter Online
Use this free DPI converter to check image DPI and convert a JPG, PNG, photo, or picture to 72, 96, 150, 200, 300, 600, or custom DPI without changing pixel dimensions or uploading the file.
How to Convert Image DPI Online
Upload an image
Select a JPG or PNG file. The current embedded DPI is detected in your browser.
Choose target DPI
Pick 72, 96, 150, 200, 300, 600 DPI, or enter a custom print-resolution value.
Convert and verify
The tool writes the new metadata and reads it back before showing a successful result.
Download
Save the verified image with unchanged pixel dimensions and visible quality.
Why Use This Image DPI Converter?
Verified DPI metadata
JPG JFIF density and PNG pHYs resolution values are checked after conversion.
Pixels stay unchanged
Metadata-only conversion does not stretch, resample, or invent image detail.
Print-size guidance
Use common DPI targets for professional printing, documents, publishing, and large-format output.
Private browser processing
DPI detection, conversion, verification, and download happen on your device.
Convert Image DPI Without Resizing Pixels
This online DPI converter updates the resolution metadata used by print and publishing software. JPG files receive verified JFIF density values and PNG files receive a verified pHYs chunk. The image pixels and visible quality remain unchanged.
If you need to change pixel width and height instead, use Resize Image Dimensions. For multiple dimension changes, use the Bulk Image Resizer.
Convert an Image or Photo to 300 DPI
The 300 DPI converter preset is designed for photos, pictures, documents, publishing files, and common professional print requirements. Upload the image, choose 300 DPI, convert the metadata, and download the verified result.
Converting a photo to 300 DPI does not automatically improve its visual quality. Sharp printing still requires enough source pixels for the intended physical print size.
Convert to 72, 150, 200, or 600 DPI
Use 72 or 96 DPI for workflows that request screen-oriented metadata, 150 or 200 DPI for many large-format jobs, and 600 DPI when a publisher or print provider explicitly requires a higher value. A custom field supports other requested DPI values.
The same metadata-safe process is used for every preset, including the 600 DPI converter option.
PPI to DPI for Image Metadata
PPI means pixels per inch and describes how image pixels map to physical print size. DPI technically describes printer dots per inch, but image websites and upload instructions commonly use DPI for the embedded resolution value.
This tool changes the image resolution metadata. It is not a mouse DPI, gaming sensitivity, Valorant, Fortnite, or pixels-to-DPI calculator.
Tested as a metadata-safe DPI converter
We test JPG JFIF density writing, PNG pHYs chunk writing, current-DPI detection, exact read-back verification, unchanged pixel dimensions, multiple DPI presets, custom values, downloads, and private browser processing before publishing. Frequently Asked Questions
How do I convert an image to 300 DPI?
Upload a JPG or PNG image, choose 300 DPI, select Convert, and download the verified file. This free online DPI converter writes the print-resolution metadata in your browser.
Can I convert a photo or picture to 300 DPI online?
Yes. Upload a JPG or PNG photo, choose the 300 DPI preset, and download the converted image. The photo keeps its original pixel width and height.
Can I convert an image to 600 DPI?
Yes. Choose the 600 DPI preset or enter another custom value. The tool updates the embedded resolution metadata without adding pixels.
Does converting to 300 DPI improve image quality?
No. Metadata-only DPI conversion does not add pixels or detail. It changes how software calculates physical print size while preserving the original pixels.
Will this DPI converter resize my image?
No. The conversion preserves pixel width and height and updates only JPG JFIF or PNG pHYs resolution metadata.
Which formats does the DPI converter support?
The current tool supports JPG, JPEG, and PNG because these formats provide reliable resolution metadata that can be written and verified in the browser.
Are PPI and DPI the same for image files?
PPI describes image pixels per printed inch, while DPI technically describes printer dots per inch. Image tools commonly use DPI as the familiar search term for embedded print-resolution metadata.
Are my images uploaded?
No. DPI detection, metadata writing, verification, and download happen locally in your browser.
